"Iets Nieuws......Something New"

Al jaren kwam ik deze quilt tegen in verschillende boeken....
...een ca 1850 applique coverlet, die in de V&A museum in Londen is te zien.

For years I have stumbled across this quilt in different books...
..an applique coverlet of around 1850, which is in the V&A in London.

Al vaak had ik erover gedacht hem na te maken, totdat ik naar Lampeter ging, een paar maanden geleden, waar quilts van Kaffe Fasset hingen. Laat ik zijn versie nou daar tegenkomen! 

I had often thought of reproducing it in some way, until I went to Lampeter, where there was an exhibition of Kaffe Fasset quilts. And there was his version!

Opeens wist ik het - ik zou deze gaan maken voor Josiah, de jongste kleinzoon, die de enige is die nog geen quilt heeft (behalve ik.....;o))!

Suddenly I knew that I wanted to make this quilt for Josiah, the youngest grandson, who is the only one in the family who has not got a quilt yet (apart from me.....;o))!

Josiah is nu al 4, en vorige week heb ik even om zijn handjes getekend, want die komen ook op de quilt. Het wordt allemaal wel een vrolijke boel, want zijn lievelingskleur is rood, en hij is gek op dinosaurussen! Het gaat leuk worden om deze quilt heel persoonlijk te maken voor hem!

Josiah is 4 now, and last week I drew around his hands, because I want them in the quilt too. It will be nice and cheerful, because his favourite colour is red, and he loves dinosaurs! It will be fun to personalise this quilt for him!

Maar dit is niet het enige nieuwe project......
Twee weken geleden ging ik even op het blog kijken van een van mijn favoriete winkels, Threadbear. En daar hing de prachtige Caswell quilt (1835) van Corliss Searcey. Ik had hem al eerder gezien, maar nu ....ik was flieft .... Deze week kwam de post uit Australie met het patroon....

But this is not the only project.....
Two weeks ago I looked at the blog of my favourite shop, Threadbear. And there was the beautiful Caswell (1835) quilt by Corliss Searcey. I had seen it before, but this time I fell in love and wanted to make it....
This week the postman came with the pattern from Australia....

Ik kan er trouwens nog niet helemaal meteen aan beginnen, want hier moet ik eerst nog twee blokken van maken...

I cannot start it straight away, because I have to make two more blocks for the Home Sweet Home quilt.....

En dan natuurlijk ook weer verder met Esther's Love Entwined.
Deel 5 is eindelijk af...

And of course I shall carry on with Esther's Love Entwined.
Part 5 is finally finished....

Met natuurlijk een vogeltje erin...

Of course I had to put a little bird in.....

Als ik naar links kijk, zie ik mijnheer Specht genieten van de pindas.

Looking to the left of where I sit, I see Mr Woodpecker enjoying the peanuts.

En een eindje verder zit mijnheer Merel de dag te overdenken. Hij denkt vast niet aan quilts, zoals ik..... 

And a little bit further Mr Blackbird is reflecting on the day. I am sure he does not think of quilts, like me....

In ieder geval heb ik voorlopig genoeg te doen!

"Keuzes...............Choices...."

Allereerst wil ik jullie bedanken voor de stroom van lieve en bemoedigende reacties op 'Catalina's Paradise'! Ik heb geprobeerd iedereen te antwoorden, maar sommigen van jullie staan op 'no-reply', en als je dan ook geen blog hebt kan ik helaas niet antwoorden.
En wat nu? Eerst weer de draad oppakken van Esther's Love Entwined, want ik loop wel wat achter met deel 5! Deze bloemetjes had ik er op gelegd....

First I want to thank you for so many lovely and encouraging comments on 'Catalina's Paradise'!  I have tried to reply to everyone, but some of you are on 'no-reply', and if you have no blog either, I cannot possibly get in touch with you!
And what now? First I take up the thread again with Esther's Love Entwined, because I am a little bit behind on part 5! These flowers I had laid out to see what they would look like....

The vase was stitched already....

En natuurlijk moest er weer een klein vogeltje in......

And of course there had to be a little bird in it...

Daarnaast heb ik ook iets ouds opgepakt, weet je nog? Ik had al 6 blokken af.

I also carried on with something old, do you remember? I had finished 6 blocks.

'Home Sweet Home' - Barbara Adams & Alma Allen, "91 Rosebud Terrace"

Eigenlijk gaat het best vlug, omdat het zulke grote stukken zijn.

Actually, it stitches up quite fast, with such large pieces.

De achtergrond is een broderietje..

The background for this block is  very loose woven...

Al gauw ben ik aan het laatste blad bezig, alles natuurlijk met gewone ouderwetse needleturn. er moeten nog wel 5 lieve blokjes onder gezet worden.

Soon I am stitching the last leaf, everything with ordinary, old-fashioned needleturn. I still have to make 5 little blocks for the house to stand on.

Terwijl ik zit te werken, kijk ik op en zie dat de kersenboom prachtig geel-oranje is.

While I am stitching, I look up and see that the cherry tree has turned a beautiful golden yellow.

Even van dichterbij bekijken, dus ik ga naar mijn werkkamer.
Heel veel bladeren liggen al op de grond na de eerste nachtvorst van vannacht, het is nu echt wel herfst.

I must look at this more closely, so I go to my workroom.
A lot of leaves are on the ground after the first frost last night, and it really is autumn now.

Dan schijnt de zon, en opeens zie ik dat we aan de overkant ook nieuwe buren hebben....

Then the sun comes out, and suddenly I see that we have new neighbours opposite.....

Fijn, elke dag schaapjes kijken overal om het huis heen......

Lovely, I can watch sheep every day all around the house....

Intussen zit ik na te denken over het nieuwe project - volgende keer meer daarover.....

"Catalina's Paradise" Quilt

Hij is dus af! Echt waar. Ik kan het zelf nog niet goed geloven.....helemaal gemaakt met needleturn applique en hand gequilt.
Het was zelfs even windstil vanmorgen, dus gauw even in de lijn gehangen. 

It is really finished. I can't really believe it myself....all made with needleturn applique, and hand quilted.
This morning it was windstill, so I could hang it in the washing line.

Hoewel ik een heleboel close-up fotos heb gemaakt, zijn ze niet mooi geworden, de zon kwam tevoorschijn!
Een filmpje ging trouwens wel, dus als je alle blokken van wat dichterbij wilt zien, klik dan hier.

Omdat paars Catalina's favoriete kleur is, heb ik de achterkant van paarse stof gemaakt, en ook de binding.
En nee hoor, labeltje niet vergeten!!!

Because purple is Catalina's favourite colour, I put a purple backing on the quilt, and a purple binding.
And no, I did not forget the label!!!

Wat kan ik nu allemaal niet gaan doen????? Volgende keer meer.
